SJND’s unique and exciting immersion experiences are offered alternating years with the science and social studies departments. Apply to earn credit for the education trips, which include classroom and field experiences. Prior to your trip, you will meet with your fellow student travelers and faculty leaders at lunch and collaboration periods to prepare for study. Through science trips, you will learn about the wildlife and botanical species as well as the culture of your travel destination. Through social studies trips, you will study significant people and historical events related to your destination.
Immersion trips are generally scheduled over Easter Break. Trips are available to any interested student with the permission of the department leaders. Fees in addition to tuition are required for these special courses.
2018 Close Up Trip to Washington, DC
Every other summer, the Social Studies department has had the fantastic opportunity to take students on the Close Up Trip to Washington, DC. The trip provides an opportunity for students to focus on current issues, the role of government, and active citizenship. Besides it being a great way to meet and interact with students from around the country, students will be able to tour the museums and memorials around the city and see up close the workings of our government with a visit to Capitol Hill, the Supreme Court, and the Library of Congress.
