Alyssa Gable ’15 Signs with Menlo College

On campus, senior Alyssa Gable is known for the tremendous leadership and spirit she brings to our campus as president of the Associated Student Body —cheering on student athletes at games, leading freshman orientation, spirit rallies and spiritual retreats. She is also an amazing basketball player with the winning combination of natural talent, determination, discipline and range.

Menlo College noticed both of these unique talents. This month, Alyssa was offered an athletic scholarship at Menlo College to support her undergraduate education and play the game she loves.

Athletic Director Chris Pondok shared, “Alyssa plays a leadership role as guard, and a wing player with great athletic ability, including a tremendous midrange jump shot. She’s been a great role model to our younger players and we’re really excited to watch her future unfold.”

Menlo College is a private four-year school located in the heart of Silicon Valley, near Google, Facebook, and other tech giants.  Alyssa has been a consistent participant in the Amateur Athletic Union, a national non-profit with a long history of providing sports programs for all participants of all ages. Coaches from various colleges watch players and this past season Menlo coaches identified Alyssa for an athletic scholarship based on both her athletic prowess and potential to contribute to the school as a leader.

Alyssa is proud to be attending a college that respects both her athleticism and leadership. She is the first in her family to receive an athletic scholarship for her undergraduate education. Of her new team, she shared, “These women are very supportive of each other with great spirit, and they believe in training like champions, which I love.” When she visited Menlo, Alyssa was drawn to a community that shares some of  SJND’s unique attributes:  small class sizes, a safe campus in a great neighborhood, and very diverse, spirited students. After she completes her undergraduate education, Alyssa looks forward to earning her law degree and specializing in criminal law.
