Christopher Wagner '74 to Speak at Graduation
Saint Joseph Notre Dame High School will hold its 132nd commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 31, 2014 at 10 a.m., in the Kelly Gymnasium on the SJND campus. We are thrilled to welcome Christopher Wagner ’74 back to campus to serve as the SJND commencement speaker.
After graduating from St. Joseph High School in 1974, Mr. Wagner continued his Catholic education at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting. During his senior year of college, he began an internship with the U.S. Treasury Department at the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). Upon his graduation in 1978, Wagner began a very successful career with the IRS. He was quickly selected into management and was soon responsible for audit operations in the Western Region before moving to Washington D. C. and taking on national responsibilities in 2000. He has spent the last 15 years as a senior executive at the IRS with his longest tenure as Commissioner of the Small Business Self Employed Division, where he led over 26,000 employees and was responsible for the tax administration of 54 million taxpayers.
Mr. Wagner has testified before Congress on multiple occasions. With his vast knowledge of federal tax law and IRS procedures, he has often been a keynote speaker for the American Bar Association, American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, National Association of Enrolled Agents and other tax organizations.
Last year Wagner retired as the Chief of Appeals after 35 years of federal service. He recently joined the firm Deloitte Consulting, LLP, where he provides advisory services to federal agencies.
As an alum, Wagner is excited to come back to SJND after all these years. He looks forward to sharing his insights and inspirations for a bright future with our graduating seniors. He also looks forward to celebrating in their success.
