Cooper Teare ’17 Seizes CIF Track State Title
On June 4, nationally-ranked Cooper Teare ’17 prevailed in the closest 3,200-meter race in the 98-year history of the CIF State Track and Field Championships.
In a photo finish at Buchanan High's Veterans Memorial Stadium in Clovis, CA, Cooper out-leaned Cole Spencer of Great Oak (Temecula) 8:51.845 to 8:51.847 to become the state champion. It was the second state title of the year for Cooper, who won the Division V Cross Country Championship in November, becoming SJND’s first individual cross country state champion.
“I mean, it’s crazy,” Teare told Erik Boal in an interview posted on DyeStatCAL.com. “It’s crazy to think I’ve been in this situation before. But heading down the final 50, it was like, ‘Been there and done that.’ My whole career I was taught to lean. It’s worked for me in the past. I’m going to keep doing what I’m doing.”
Congratulations Cooper – you make SJND and the Bay Area proud! You can watch his interview here.
