Cooper Teare '17 Represents Team USA at PanAm Games in Peru
SJND graduate and University of Oregon signee Cooper Teare '17 represented Team USA at the PanAm Games in Lima, Peru on July 21-23.
He qualified at the USATF Track Championships in Sacramento on Saturday, June 24. The top two finishers earned a spot on the USA team; Cooper's blazing second-place finish of 3:47 in the 1500 meter race (with the last 800m in 1:57!) secured his place.
The Pan American Junior Championships in Peru hosted athletes from over 40 countries, including Canada, Mexico, Cuba, and others across Central and South America. SJND was cheering him on as he represented the United States!
Cooper won his first heat at the games and moved on to the next round. In the finals, he clinched third place overall (American Eric Van Der Els took first, Canada's Kyle Madden took second), flying through the finish line in 3:46.46 and earning him another nation-leading time in the 1500m.
These games completed Teare’s remarkable season, in which he led the nation in three separate events, including the 3200m and 5K. He was also one of three others to run 4:00-flat in the mile and among five who ran 4:02 or faster on the season. We look forward to following his successes in Oregon this year!
