Emily Perez ’19 Commits to Oregon State University Cross Country Program
SJND senior and cross country standout Emily Perez has committed to run at Oregon State University, joining fellow Pilots and recent teammates Kiera Marshall ’17 (University of Washington) and Cooper Teare ’17 (University of Oregon) in a migration to the Pacific Northwest.
“I chose Oregon State University to study kinesiology and to be a part of a growing cross country program,” Emily explained. “It was a long process but I’m happy with my decision!”
Emily’s achievement does not come as a surprise to longtime Cross Country Coach Tony Fong.
“Emily has trained and worked so hard during her time at SJND, it was not a surprise that she will receive close to a full scholarship to continue her running at OSU,” he said. “She told me her freshman year that she wanted to run in college and hopefully for a Pac-12 team; she has accomplished both goals.”
With months left before her transition to college, Emily plans to continue training and working hard to better herself as a runner, but looks forward to making some final memories as a Pilot.
“I’m excited to now enjoy senior year and finish my last cross country season with SJND! And I can’t wait for track and field! Now I can enjoy the little things of my last year of high school before entering a whole new world in college.”
Congratulations, Emily, from all of us at SJND!
