Environmental Awareness Club Spends a Weekend in the Ocean and Under the Stars
With nine people, two vans, and a lot of gear and food, the Environmental Awareness Club traveled to Manresa State Park to camp above the Monterey Bay surf. With Club Moderator Mr. McKee, EAC members roasted hot dogs and marshmallows, jumped in the (still warm) waves, saw several pods of dolphins, observed sand crabs, stargazed, and camped just above the beach. Everyone took turns cooking meals and helping with cleanup, and still had time to play cards, soccer, and glow-in-the-dark capture the flag on the beach.
Brooke Tyler ’17 shared what the trip meant to her: “The trip expanded my understanding of Environmental Awareness. Getting outside of the city and seeing all the stars, and how vast the ocean truly is, broadened my understanding of why we need to strive to protect our incredible environment.” Joe Picchi ’18 added, “The EAC camping trip enriched my understanding of my relationship with the natural world, and provided me with the opportunity to expand my horizons.”
The club officers did an amazing job planning, reserving, and organizing the trip.
