Help Raise Funds to Support Student Innovation at the 38th Annual Crab Feed & Auction

Crab Feed Paddle Raise 2018.

We hope to see you at our 38th Annual SJND Crab Feed & Auction on Saturday, February 2, 2019 from 5:00-10:00 p.m. This event is a favorite of many of our parents, alumni and friends, and our biggest fundraising event of the year, so don’t miss out! Ticket sales close January 25.

This year, in addition to raising critical funds for tuition assistance, scholastic development, and athletics, please also consider investing in student innovation as we raise our paddles in support of the new mobile IDEA (Innovation, Design, Engineering and Art) Lab.

Saint Joseph Notre Dame High School’s new mobile IDEA Lab will transform our classrooms and enhance student learning outcomes. The IDEA Lab will be made up of several cutting-edge technologies, including fabrication, robotic, and audio/video production tools, most of which will be mobile so they can be shared across departments. This allows any classroom the opportunity to become an innovative learning environment and will not restrict availability to a traditional lab space.

IDEA Lab fabrication tools include a high speed 3D printer, a laser cutter, and a CNC machine. Robotics tools include Lego EV3 kits, raspberry pi kits, brickpi kits, and sensors. The A/V tools include a One Button Studio high quality recording booth, a mobile camera, lighting equipment, sound kits and Oculus Go Virtual Reality goggles. The total estimated cost of this new program is $59,000.

“Problem solving, prototyping and physical computing are all core elements of a 21st Century education. The Maker Movement and our proposed IDEA Lab is an opportunity to bring creative design thinking to the SJND classrooms and student life programs. We can make ideas come to life through manufacturing, robotics, and audio/visual production,” explains Mr. Andy McKee, Director of Integration and Technology. “Come see a table of some of our new equipment in action at the Crab Feed,” he added.

The HEDCO Foundation will provide SJND a generous matching grant of up to $30,000 for each dollar raised at the Alameda Derby: SJND Crab Feed & Auction on February 2.
