Mayoral Proclamation to Honor SJND State Champions
Mayor Gilmore of Alameda will honor the Saint Joseph Notre Dame High School men’s cross country and men’s basketball teams with a proclamation presented at two Alameda city council meetings this month. The mayor proclaims the week of May 5 as SJND men’s cross country week and the week of May 19 as SJND men’s basketball week, honoring the two programs for winning the CIF State Championship in their respective sports.
The cross country proclamation took place on May 6 at 7 p.m. The basketball proclamation will take place on May 20 at 7 p.m.
This is the first time two SJND athletic teams have won a state championship in the same year. With their win this year, the men’s cross country team has sealed back to back state titles. This is the second time that SJND has achieved such a feat, men’s basketball being the first in ’91 and ’92.
The men’s cross country team ended their undefeated season at the championship meet, finishing with 5 runners in the top 70 and 75 points ahead of the second place team. Men’s basketball has won their 5th state title in school history, the most basketball championships by any northern California high school.
All are welcome to attend and support the hard work and dedication of these teams. Go Pilots!
