Men's Baseball Captures NCS Championship
Congratulations to Men's Baseball! They beat St. Patrick-St. Vincent-Vallejo (4-1) on Saturday, June 3 to capture the NCS D4 Baseball Championship. The win marks back-to-back NCS titles for the Pilots, who seized the D5 crown last year in 2016.
In the NCS semifinals on May 30, SJND shut out Kelseyville 4-0 to advance to the finals. The 13th-seeded SPSV Bruins were unable to complete their run as the No. 3 Pilots scored two runs in the first inning on Hudson Hennigh’s single, and never trailed en route to a 4-1 victory at Diablo Valley College. Starting pitcher Joseph Boyden only gave up three hits in five innings; relief pitcher Hunter Hennigh retired all six batters he faced to help clinch the title.
“It feels great to win it this year,” SJND head coach Mark Castillo said to the Times Herald. “When we moved up from Division V last year along with losing 10 seniors from last year’s team, I wasn’t sure how we would do. But it looks like we got a good thing going here.”
