New Bishop Visits St. Joseph's
Students assisted in the Mass of installation of Father George Alengadan as the new pastor of St. Joseph Basilica, and Bishop Michael C. Barber commended the parish and its schools.
"I look out and see a happy and healthy parish here at St. Joseph Basilica," Bishop Barber said at the Mass on August 31. "This is one of the only parishes in the entire country that has a church, an elementary school and a high school, and they are all thriving."
The overflowing church also welcomed Father George as the new leader of the parish. He, too, said the parish's strength lay in its partnership with the schools.
"We are a trinity: the church, the elementary school and the high school," he said. After the Mass, students, families and parishioners gathered for a huge community potluck and entertainment in the Kelly Gym.
