Parent Resource Fair a Great Success

On April 14th, at SJND's First Annual Parent Resource Fair, several organizations visited SJND and met with students and parents, introducing them to local opportunities and resources for high school-age youth. Organizations included Outward Bound, City of Alameda Recreation and Parks Department, Youth Radio, Alameda Food Bank, Alameda County Youth Leadership Academy, Alameda Family Services, Bay Language Academy, Psychological Service Center at Alliant University, and City of Alameda Library.
More than 150 SJND parents and students attended our fair and expressed their appreciation of this new event for our school. One parent reported that "the variety presented was impressive and very appealing to many interests."  Another commented that "everyone who presented was very well-prepared. This (fair) really opened my eyes."
Student counselor Angela Tsang, who organized this event on behalf of the Counseling Department, shared that the positive reception and high attendance illustrated the strong interest among our students and families to be more closely connected to the surrounding community. She shared, "We hope to provide even more opportunities for our students and families in the future--opportunities that develop meaningful connections with the many wonderful Bay Area organizations that provide opportunities for our students.
