Phoebe Grunt ’13 Selected All-Big West
Phoebe Grunt ’13 was selected as an All-Big West Honorable Mention for her outstanding play on the UC Santa Barbara women’s volleyball team, which was a co-winner of the Big West conference and went on to the NCAA playoffs. She was also named All-Freshman in the Big West.
“At middle blocker, Grunt finished with the league's top blocks per set average at 1.26 and led UCSB with 125 total blocks,” according to a report on the UCSB website. “Some of her best performances came against USC, when she recorded a season-high 11 blocks, and against Hawaii when she posted 10 block assists and five kills.”
UCSB was a co-winner of the Big West, along with Hawaii and CSU Northridge, and UCSB made its first NCAA appearance since 2009. The Gauchos lost in the first round to University of San Diego.
At SJND, Phoebe was all-league all four years, and she helped lead the Pilots into post-season North Coast Section and NorCal playoffs. She is studying biology at UCSB.
