Pilot Athletes Commit to Division 1
Proud coaches, teammates, family and friends gathered in Kelly Gymnasium on April 16 to celebrate the signing of two NCAA Division 1 collegiate athletes, Madeleine Doud ’14 and Gabriel Arias-Sheridan ‘14. In his introduction of the athletes, Principal Simon Chiu reflected on the great legacy of athletics here at SJND and said, “Gabe and Maddie are now part of this history.”
Maddie will travel from one island (Alameda) to the next as she commits to play volleyball next year at Texas A&M Corpus Christi, The Island University. She is the second athlete in school history to go on to play Div. 1 collegiate volleyball, following her cousin Phoebe Grunt ’13.
With two consecutive cross country state championships under his belt, Gabe has signed to run with Saint Mary’s College. Gabe joins former Pilot teammate Kimberly Avalos ’13 and coaches predict he will make an “immediate impact” on the program. Read more here
In recent news, SJND track and field star Julian Lucas ’14 will also receive a scholarship from Humboldt State University. It is a great year for SJND athletics!
