Pilots Celebrate Music, Running and Independence

Is it possible to "win" Fourth of July? On July 4 this year, our Pilot community had an impressive showing (with awards and medals) at the Annual Mayor's R.A.C.E. (Ralph Appezzato Charity Event) and the glorious tradition of Alameda's Fourth of July Parade.

At the R.A.C.E. event, at least 22 Pilot runners, past and present, competed, with amazing results. SJND Coach Tony Fong and current cross country and track team members ran the charity event, which benefits the Alameda Midway Shelter. Pilot winners got photographs with the former mayor Appezzato's sons, including alumni Josh '96 and David Appezzato '87, both of whom serve our country in the U.S. Navy.

The SJND Band meanwhile rocked the island in the Fourth of July parade. The band took first place in the transported school band category this year and enjoyed an award ceremony with Mayor Spence at City Hall July 14.

Go Pilots!
