Pilots Give Back: Supporting NorCal Wildfire Relief Efforts

Following the devastating wildfires that tore through parts of Northern California in early October, SJND stepped up to give back to those impacted by this tragic event in our own backyard.

With one day's notice, student clubs including ARK Club, US's, Feeding America, GIVE and Interact came together to coordinate a donations drive for those seeking shelter at evacuation centers. Students collected and delivered hundreds of essentials - including diapers, toiletries and blankets - donated by SJND families, faculty, staff and community members.

SJND also took part in the Be a Sign of Hope drive organized by Bishop Vasa of the Diocese of Santa Rosa, an area gravely impacted by the wildfires. Together, and with support from the Musical Theater Society's Open Mic Night, the SJND community raised over $1,500 to be donated to Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Santa Rosa and Cardinal Newman High School, a Catholic high school in Santa Rosa that experienced significant damage in the fires.

This tragedy directly impacts members of our community, including teacher Mark Castillo whose niece perished in the fires, and the Kamplain family, who live near the devastation in Santa Rosa, teacher Mike Kamplain and sons Michael '18 and Thomas '19. SJND continues to pray for these members of our community and all those impacted by the wildfires.

Thank you to those who generously supported these efforts and the incredible leadership by our students. Together, Pilots will always rise to the needs of those who are suffering, ill, or ravaged by natural disasters.
