Principal's Message, March 2014
Last week, the Counseling Department initiated its first college visit field trip for members of our sophomore class. SJND’s college counselor, Dr. Angelica Bailon, took half of our sophomore class to visit Santa Clara University. I was happy to help chaperone the field trip to my alma mater. This new program will get sophomores onto a college campus and also help them understand how exactly to do a college visit right. The students had a great time in the rain, and I enjoyed being back on the beautiful SCU campus. Later in the spring, the other half of the sophomore class will visit Saint Mary’s College. These trips are all part of the comprehensive college counseling program we offer to our students, and it’s great to see our sophomore students involved in this active way.
Last week was also our annual Spirit Week. It’s always a bit of a crazy week, with dress up days, games at lunch and the final night rally on Friday night followed by a dance. I love the energy on campus that week, and it’s always great to see our students excited and enthused about being Pilots. There’s lots of friendly competition throughout the week but in the end, the students unite around the community here at SJND.
Basketball playoffs began last week. This is always an exciting time to be a Pilots fan, and I hope you will follow the playoffs over the course of the next few weeks and attend a game or two. On top of this, all of our spring sports have begun in earnest and league contests are just around the corner. Go Pilots!
