Special Announcement from Principal Simon Chiu
Dear Alumni, Families and Friends,
I have been honored to be a part of the Saint Joseph Notre Dame community for the last eight years. My years at SJND have helped to make me a better educator, leader and person and have given me much joy. I have tremendous pride in the hundreds of students I have watched grow, graduate and go on to enjoy success and happiness in and beyond college.
I am writing to share with you that I will be stepping down as principal of SJND at the end of the school year. In July, I will begin serving as the president of St. Francis High School in Mountain View. I am excited to take on this new challenge. And I know that because SJND’s success is built on the strength of our collective efforts, SJND will continue to thrive.
The education SJND offers today has deep roots in generations of inspiring teachers and leaders. The transformation that has taken place over my time at SJND is deeply humbling and I am grateful to all of you—students, parents, alumni and friends—for making so many of these changes both possible and effective. Among these are the renovation of all of our classrooms; courses that are project-based and cutting edge; increased offerings of AP courses and exemplary pass rates on AP exams; an athletics program that has grown in size and includes state champion teams in cross country and basketball; the revitalization of the arts program and the new Georgia M. Vlahos Performing Arts Studio; these and countless other successes are a tribute to the strength of the SJND community and each of you.
I know that the affection and support you have given over my time here will continue well into the future. Pastor Fr. George Alengadan, our Board of Trustees, the Diocese of Oakland’s Schools department and I have begun planning to ensure a smooth transition. SJND is a dynamic school that will doubtless attract outstanding candidates and an exceptional new principal. Our new leader will enjoy our mission-driven teachers, each of whom is incredibly caring and dedicated to the success of our students. We will keep you informed and look forward to welcoming SJND’s newest leader.
Thank you for allowing me to serve as your principal for the past eight years. You have welcomed and embraced me and my family and I am grateful for everything you do on behalf of SJND.
