Students and Faculty Build Homes and Hope with Habitat for Humanity

The SJND Habitat for Humanity Club has been hard at work this year. Student volunteers have been working on a Habitat for Humanity build in Novato, advancing affordable housing. During the club’s October visit, the build site was still in early stages, so students and teachers spent the day putting up walls, installing roofing, and securing the foundation of the house. These tasks were met with enthusiasm fueled by the knowledge that the work was helping those less fortunate.

Angel Munoz '16, an officer of the club, expressed “I was able to connect with friends, teachers, and other volunteers under this idea of doing good. It just put everyone in a good mood, which really led to an even better day.”

The club returned to the build site in Novato in November and spent a beautiful Saturday preparing the exterior of houses for inspection, installing the blocking necessary for the structural support of roofing, and placing the siding onto the exterior of homes.

Club members are excited tor return to the Novato site a few more times this year, and hope that soon they will be able to see families move in to and benefit from the houses they built.
